Nye’s Cream Sandwiches was created by founder Christian Nye in May 2010. The brand quickly established itself by pairing artisan ice cream with house-made chewy cookies, creating a frozen dessert that rapidly garnered overwhelming local demand. Christian was obsessed with raising the bar on delicious food, and his product proved the need for a premium, handcrafted alternative in the frozen dessert market.

From Customer to Owner
Chef Robert Pickens was one of Nye’s earliest and most loyal customers. As the former Executive Chef at an exclusive Golf Club, Robert introduced Nye’s as a premium treat to the membership where they became a huge hit at special events, weddings, and throughout the club.
In 2024, when Christian sought to pass the local sensation to the right inheritors, he found the perfect match in Chef Robert Pickens and his wife, Leslie. Having owned and operated several successful restaurants for nearly 20 years, the Pickens were excited to take ownership with a shared and clear mission: to maintain the brand’s quality and legacy while expanding its reach through new flavors and innovations. Their guiding promise is to share Nye’s beloved ice cream sandwiches with everyone.

STAX Ice Cream Kitchen
The commitment to quality and expansion quickly led to the opening of STAX Ice Cream Kitchen in September 2024 as Wilmington’s first build-your-own ice cream sandwich shop. The STAX location allows our chef-owned business to test new concepts and showcase the full depth of our products daily, ensuring the quality you receive is always market-tested and exceptional.
